What is the meaning of 1844 for the year 2023? Has the message lost its relevance to those alive in the 21st Century?
While I am extremely open minded when it comes to the subject of prophecy in the Bible, I have come to the conclusion that historicism (the belief that the Bible has something to reveal about the past, present, and future of planet earth) has relevance for us today.
When asked what I believed was the relevance of the 2300 days prophecy that covers the time period of (457 B.C to AD 1844) I gave the following response:
Prophecy fulfilled is one of the reasons we have for believing in the divine inspiration of the scriptures. The meaning of prophecy today is to reveal the divine authorship of the scriptures.
The meaning of 1844 today is that God is forcing things to a close and we are living on borrowed time. The message of judgement also makes us consider the necessity of wearing the robes of Christ’s righteousness at all times. We cannot pass judgement on our own righteousness, but only the perfect righteousness of Christ will allow for the verdict “No Condemnation”
