The Divine Rules (Part One)

The Divine Rules (Part One)

I. Divine Rule Number One

Do not worship or serve anything other than the one true God.

We worship the Creator not created things. We worship the giver and not the gift. We do not worship the blessings but the one who grants those blessings for our benefit.

II. Divine Rule Number Two

Do not create images of God or bow down in worship to them.

God is infinite and beyond human comprehension. It is impossible for human beings to create any physical or mental image that comes close to representing the fullness of His glory or perfection.

He is also not attached to any physical object in the natural world. There is no divine presence in any statue, painting, or symbol that requires our worship or devotion. We are to bow down and worship God alone who created all that exists in heaven and earth.

III. Divine Rule Number Three

Do not misuse the name of God.

We respect His Holy name and refuse to bring dishonor to Him in both word and deed. We also give God the glory and refuse to take credit for what He has done. We dishonor His name by claiming divine power and authority that is due to Him alone.

IV. Divine Rule Number Four

Observe the Seventh-day Sabbath and refrain from unnecessary secular labor during this time.

As Jesus created the world by the word of His divine power, and freed Israel from bondage to the Egyptian slave masters, He also frees us from the penalty of death by shedding his blood on the cross for our sins.

Because of His perfect and finished work for us, He offers us life, liberty, and rest in the assurance of salvation by faith alone in what he has accomplished. Because of His work we have rest in Him.

The sabbath day reminds us to rest in the finished work of Christ on our behalf. We do not observe the day to earn or keep our salvation, rather we keep it as a Holy day out of love and gratitude for having been saved.

Jesus is our Sabbath rest.
